Funny New Year's Resolution #1: Become A Femme Fatale

She's dangerous. She's sexy. She wears patent leather...and not just on her shoes. She steals the scene in every badass Tarantino flick, you don't know whether to hit her or to kiss her. She's a femme fatale.

Me on the other hand, I'm the nice girl. I gravitate more towards the cute end of the spectrum of labels, and that's okay with me. I like being slightly naive and embrace my innocence. A petite, five foot two and a half-inch brunette with brown eyes and an irish nose.

So this year I want to work on nurturing my dark side. It won't be through a drastic haircut or color, I'm afraid with my coloring I would look like Samara from "The Ring" or Wednesday Adams from "The Adams Family".

No, it will be much more clever than that. The turn of the head, the bat of the eye, the click of a spiky-heel. Somehow I will nurture my inner femme fatale. And she shall be called...Natasha.

Sephora "Vampire Makeover" Contest from Beauty & the Blog

This is a post I created originally for the Courier Journal and then modified for a Sephora Twilight contest. I just got a notification that I was one of the winners! This is the post that I sent into Sephora...enjoy!

I have been suffering some strange symptoms as of late, and it all began after reading Twilight. I consulted my physician, and he gave me this thoroughly scientific explanation for my disease.

Twilightis: a highly contagious virus contracted through contact with the "Twilight" series by Stephenie Meyer. Anyone is susceptible to this virus, but the strain seems to be especially prevalent among young women, typically among the the teenage set.

Symptoms include: dark circles under the eyes from nights spent flipping one more page after one more page, frequent excursions to a book retailer to fill the void left after completion of one of the novels, obsessive checking of blogs and other web sites devoted to the series, defending to the death one's position on either Team Edward or Team Jacob, difficulty sleeping due to dreams about Edward Cullen, difficulty concentrating in an educational environment due to daydreams about Edward Cullen, difficulty paying attention to living boys due to fantasies about Edward Cullen

Remedies: While a cure is unknown, there are a few suggestions to bring the afflicted back to reality. This includes reading something unromantic and serious, such as a World History textbook. Another option includes finding a dark, damp hole in the farthest corner of the world where there is no such thing as literature, television, or teenagers.

Okay, so yes I am obsessed with Twilight. I am currently re-reading the series and have seen the film twice already. In a nutshell, Bella Swan is the human girl who falls in love with a teenage vampire, the dashing Edward Cullen. To combine two of my loves (Twilight and Soffe)-I will now present to you what I believe Bella would wear if she were to shop at Soffe.

Juniors Valedictoria Crew Forks is a wet and chilly town on the Olympic Penninsula. I know if I were her I would be reaching for a cute and cozy sweatshirt all the time (especially cuddling up with a cold-as-stone vampire boyfriend).

Juniors Football Pant When Bella is chilling in her room with Edward, she forgets to bring her silky PJ's. Instead she pulls on a pair of sweatpants with a t-shirt. She still looks tempting to Edward though!

Juniors Football Tee Bella isn't much of an athlete, she wouldn't want to risk breaking ANOTHER bone, as accident and disaster prone as she is. That doesn't mean she wouldn't want to look sporty-and a football tee like this would do the trick.

Pinch me...I think I've died and gone to fashion heaven: My trip to Rebecca Taylor

On my recent trip to New York City, I was able to have a very unique opportunity to live one of my dreams and visit one of my favorite designer's studio, Rebecca Taylor. I have always loved Taylor's clothing. Although her direction is always fashion-forward, there is a distinct feminine aspect about her floaty fabrics and precious prints that is timeless. It is impossible to wear her clothes and not feel beautiful, let alone utterly stylish.

In the cab ride over to the studio in the Fashion District, I could barely hold in my excitement. I had been waiting for this since the moment the arrangements had been made for my visit. My mom and I walked through the doors of an unassuming narrow building, took the elevator, and watched as the doors opened into a room bathed in a soft light. I couldn't help myself but turn into a dumb little fan-girl for a few moments as I stood there admiring the space. Every inch of the loft was covered in some pretty little detail, reminding me of a dollhouse. A rack of clothing held the Resort collection nearby. Swirly patterns decorated the walls. Cat images, Taylor's signature logo, were sprinkled everywhere.

We were greeted by Frank Ricci, a sharp and stylish sales executive, who gave us the grand tour of the studio, including rooms filled with bolts of fabric, trims, buttons, bows, and all sorts of crafty materials that eventually are sewn, stitched, or embroidered to become garments. We were taken to a room filled with sketches for upcoming seasons, and I even briefly met Rebecca Taylor herself as she was fleeting down the hallway, and I was immediately taken with how she was so down to earth and did not put on any airs.

My experience at Rebecca Taylor was a delight, the cherry on top of the ice cream sundae which is New York. Thank you to all who had a part in giving me the opportunity to live one of my dreams! Maybe in the future I could be blessed with a career in such a fantasy world...

Summer Must-Have: FitFlops

I have a confession. I am a runner, and like to pretend that I am a hard-core-Spartan-athlete, yet I'm a very naturally lazy person. When I'm having one of those days in which I lack the motivation to do anything other than shopping or running errands, I reach for my secret weapon, my FitFlops.

Maybe it's the hype, maybe its the gimmick, but I can't get enough of these shoes. First off, they are incredibly comfortable and have just the right width to support your feet when walking. They are also supposed to tone your legs by tensing the muscles in your calves and thighs as you walk. I believe I can vouch for this because the first day I wore them my legs were sore by the time I took them off. This reassured me that there was "something" going on. Now even when I'm having a lazy-day I can feel like I'm somewhat of a Spartan, even if the only thing I am hard-core about is taking it easy.

GO International: Richard Chai

Mention chai...and I'm already biased. You see, I mix my own Chai tea latte every morning...it's my own version of a cup o' joe. Now I have a new chai to love, that is, Richard Chai. He is the next up-and-coming designer to collaborate with GO International to create another fabulous collection. Out this August, the collection is sure to retain Chai's tailored, yet romantic aesthetic.

As a side note, I am constantly impressed with the talent that Target acquires. Always on the cusp of major success, the designers are never over-exposed and the designs are always fresh. Keep 'em coming Target, I need my GO International fix just as much as my daily java.

I have the weirdest, most unlikely obsession with nylon. Yes, I am a die hard fan of Nylon Magazine, which could explain why I am drawn to the material's shiny, slick finish. The origin of this fetish, I cannot say. Maybe it is my love of the famous Prada nylon bags. Maybe it is because I was not alive in the eighties to experience the nylon trend in the height of its popularity. I can experience the style for the first time without worrying that I look like a retro-hot-mess.

Which leads me to my must-have piece of clothing for summer, the nylon Soffe short. Not only a quintessential teenage item, these lightweight shorts have also been a lifesaver on many occasions. They are perfect for all types of unpredictable summer situations: concerts in the sweltering heat, getting stuck outside in the rain, for use as a bathing-suit cover-up at the pool or beach, and spontaneous excursions to amusement parks. I love, love, love these shorts.

GO International: Rogan

It was a cold, wet, and miserable day until I heard news that brightened my afternoon like a beacon of light. After going in to Target recently, I noticed that, instead of a new designer name, GO International was simply GO International. Now don't get me wrong, the clothes were cute, but the magic wasn't there. The excitement of getting a little piece of the designer dream just wasn't the same with these nameless clothes, without knowing the genius behind them. Back to the present: I have just learned that there is hope on the horizon. Rogan for Target GO International is the next designer collection to debut May 18th. Rogan Gregory, a CFDA Fashion Award winner, is an edgy new designer know for his ecologically conscience clothes, as well as his sharp tomboy-chic aesthetic. While I can't say whether this line will be green, I can say that, from what I have seen, it looks like quite the cure for an afternoon slump.

It doesn't matter how often you wear heels, or how often you claim how "comfortable" they are, the flip-flop is the comfort-food of footwear. It's easy, low-key, and the closest thing to walking around barefoot (yet without the hillbilly factor). My hands-down, tried-and-true favorite is the brazilian brand Havaianas. Those Brazilians know their sandals.

These flip flops are sturdier than your standard pair, hold up for an entire summer (even with everday wear), and best of all: no toe chafing! This is a biggie for me concidering every other pair seem to rub in that spot between the big toe and the other toes. Concidering the generally cheap price of other flip-flops, these may seem like a pricey pair ($15), yet they are worth the money for the comfort and the ease (not to mention the fantasy of that perfect Brazilian cabana on the beach that I seem to daydream about whenever I wear them!)

Here's the scenario: one clumsy girl trips ever so gracefully while playing a game of basketball. In her cute yet impractical strappy sandals. Needless to say this resulted in a seriously scraped-up knee. Ouch.

She thought to herself "This is short-short season! I need to heal this thing...and fast!"

Leave it to Zac to give us a show. The predominant theme was the distinction between masculine and feminine dressing, and what happens when those lines are blurred. Silhoettes were romantic, details were intricate, pom poms were Disney-riffic.

BCBG Max Azria

Azria is the master of gorgeous, wearable clothes. There is never anything "off" about his collections--just classic shapes that embrace the trends. The thread that continued in most of the looks was the simple and effortlessly chic leather belt tied at the waist, which made for a beautiful contrast with the creamy palette of the dresses. There was also the voluminous mini, an oxymoron in itself, and edgy asseymetry to round out the collection.

Anna Sui

Oh Anna, your pieces make me want to be magically transformed into a beatnik-hippie-princess. There were patterns everywhere, colors straight out of a fairytale, all mixed together in a perfect collage of textures. The art noveau-inspired prints struck a cord with me, calling to mind 19th century posters and the artist Mucha.

Marc Jacobs

When it comes to Marc Jacobs, one often needs to sit and ponder his work in order to appreciate it. This season seems to be a call to modesty in reaction to a society of exhibitionism. Heavy stuff, yes, but the hemlines are low and the fit is generally loose. A collection for the intellectual fan of fashion.

3.1 Philip Lim

Lim, the current"It" guy of the fashion world, created a collection filled with a variety of colors and textures. The predominant influence seems to be Russian in the rich colors and brocades. His coats were all gorgeous on their own but would also complement a wide wardrobe, making them future covetable items.

Alexander Wang

Wang is the bad-boy rocker rebel of my small review. His body-consciouncess collection stood out against the more austere collections of other shows. The leather, gritty metallics, stark black, and clingy jersey all have an in-your-face attitude that should make him popular with pop tarts and rockers alike. I love the black and beige dress especially, which could perhaps herald a trend of black with neutral hues for the fall palette.

Feeling inspired by the fabulous eye makeup at Proenza Schouler, I got a little creative. Its what I do when I've got nowhere to go and nothing to do! January is a time of holiday hangover, the return of monotonous routine, and when herds of guilt-ridden people flock to the gym to fulfill their New Years resolution. I am no different, but I always look on the bright side of this vicious cycle-new clothes! This Spring 2008 season, Stella McCartney has designed another gorgeous and practical collection for tennis, running, golf, and swim, as well as warm-up clothing and accessories. If this seems a little frivolous to you, I have a few arguments. These clothes have the best technology to improve your game, and can also be mixed and matched with other pieces of your wardrobe seamlessly. My view is when you look good, you will probably work out harder too.

One if not possibly the most chic sports is tennis. While being very classic, this outfit is also very fresh. The sweetly feminine detailing on the neckline is a retro take on the polo. The skort is also a tennis staple, and this one has just the right
amount of minimalism to balance out the preciousness of the blouse.

This outfit is my favorite, since I am a runner. This material is breathable and wicks away perspiration, while looking shiny and fabulous as well. I love the utilitarian vibe, the bright colors, and the satiny texture.

A very unique interpretation of the golf uniform. No polo shirts to be seen here! I could easily see the short jacket paired with jeans for a casual spring outfit.

A very glamorous maillot. Just a tad bit more modest than a bikini. This is for active people who love their two piece but don't want their bathing suit to be, um, as active as well.

Inspired: Twilight by Stephanie Meyer

Over the winter break, I decided to catch up on some un-required reading (finally)! I also got my wisdom teeth pulled, which meant no social time for Miss "The Godfather"-cheeked girl. I picked up Twilight by Stephenie Meyers, and could not put it down! It is one of the most beautiful stories I have ever read. It's the unlikely love story of Bella, a typical teen girl, and Edward, a beautiful and complex vampire. I have passed this book on to a few people now of all different ages, it is just a universally appealing, genre-defying masterpiece (the movie is in the works...and check out the rest of the series!)

How does this apply to my blog? Well, I came across one of my favorite must-haves in one of its new incarnations, Moon Venom from DuWop. This tingly lip plumper has opalescent shimmer in it, perfect for if you are feeling a little mysterious. The venom theme is such a unique concept and reminds me of the venom in the bite of a vampire. The shimmery "moon" flecks remind me of the title of Meyer's second book, New Moon (Note: the tingly sensation is from the cinnamon extract).

I recommend reading this series, you won't regret it.

Covetable: Leather Hoodie

Don't get the wrong idea. I'm about as badass as a cupcake. But for some reason I am so drawn to this gorgeous leather hoodie by Mike and Chris.

This twist on a classic borrows from the biker boys yet adds a decidedly chic twist. The gorgeous neutral color has a European flair, perfect for zipping off on a Vespa or picking up groceries at the chilly produce section of the supermarket. The antique and distressed texture gives it just enough of a roughed-up finish to keep it from looking undesirably new. The fact that it's a hoodie combines casual with luxe, making it wearable for many occasions. And the pièce de résistance: the hug-you-in-all-the-right-places fit.

I can picture this as a hugely versatile piece. Worn with jeans and a sweater, this would be a wonderful layering piece on those days when a down puffer just doesn't give you the sleek look you want. This would also go beautifully with softer fabrics to juxtapose textures, creating a truly unique look. In essence, this is the piece for all you girls who don't want to sacrifice your femininity in order to look strong and confident.

Consider it your urban armour.

Huh? White Lashes at Erin Featherson

Is it just me, or does it look like this model at the Erin Featherson Spring 2008 runway show forgot to put on mascara over her primer? Artistically I think this look is very intriguing, almost like icicles around the eyes. Practically, I think this look would have people wondering whether or not you bleached your eyelashes. This is very runway rebellious, and perhaps an inspiration for a Halloween costume as the White Witch from Narnia?

A very odd trend appeared on the Balenciaga runway this fall season, no doubt making the audience question whether they were at a fashion show or the roller rink. This bright, clunky shoe appears to be the illegitimate child of a roller skate and a stiletto, a strange hybrid of sport and style. Perhaps the fierce athletic styling of the 80's is back with a vengeance after years of minimalism, boho-chic, and retro-glam.

So, what do YOU think, is it couture or just clunk?

Am I the only one who remembers that nineties song "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" by Eiffel 65? Yes, it takes me back to those good ol' bad-pop-song days. But enough of my reminiscence. Makeup is having an indigo mood lately with a new crop of the cool-toned color infiltrating surprising products, creating dazzling effects!

Benefit BADgal Blue may seem a little intimidating, but it is in fact so easy to wear. The deep blue mascara brings out the whites of the eyes while toning down red. Wear it by itself or brush the tips of black mascara-coated lashes to make your eyes seem bigger, brighter, and more awake.

When it comes to nails, navy is the new black. This is definitely a fresh take on the dark nail trend that is still lingering from last year. This moisturizer passes by with flying colors because it not only moisturizes my Sahara desert skin but also makes it feel just like...skin. I know, it's amazing! It just works, no fluff.

All good things come to an end, and that means a really wonderful vacation in the City of Lights! I have never seen such beautiful architecture and art, every corner had another surprise. If any of you have the opportunity in your life to go to Europe, definitely take the time to just look around, soak it up, and enjoy the gorgeous city.

Now on to the good part. The shopping in Paris was a dream! It was so hard to choose from one unique shop to another. Not only were the boutiques amazing, but even the pharmacies stocked hard-to-find luxe beauty goods. It was hard to choose what I would blog about first, but I have chosen a worthy contender.

Colette is the Kitson of Paris. This means that it is the mecca of insider trends. Every inch of the three-level building is bursting with the next big thing in Parisian style. There are books, CDs, skincare, makeup, fragrance, toys, accessories, and high-end fashion, just to name a few. There is even a restaurant in the basement, heating up the building and making it the perfect escape on a chilly day (but unfortunately not so great in the sweltering heat).

It was so hard to choose from all of the quirky finds at the super boutique, the dollar being so weak right now, that I narrowed it down to three. I bought this cute pair of skinny black jeans, a Colette mix CD, and a cute handmade teddy bear key chain.

If you ever have the opportunity to go the Paris, put Colette on your list. It's a madhouse of quirk, creativity, and people, but it is so worth it.

The Mascara Diaries: Mermaid Edition

The life of a mermaid has always been a fantasy of mine. Ever since seeing Disney's "The Little Mermaid" at a very young age, I had wanted to be like one of those sirens of the sea, those magical, mythical creatures that fill page after page of storybooks and have intrigued land-lovers for centuries. Even though half of their body was quite, ahem, gross and slimy, they had a bewitching beauty that captured the hearts of sailors. Maybe it was their glowing skin, their twisted ropes of hair that was strategically placed, such as Daryl Hannah in "Splash," or their big, bright eyes that seemed to hold the intensity of the sea itself within their gaze.

If the beach beauties of the real world are supposed to emulate the supernatural allure of the mermaid, than we need to have that flawless, waterproof mascara to accent that smoldering gaze. Turbans don't exactly draw connections with glamour. Sheiks in the Arabian Desert is more on target. Not so this season! Prada has taken the ubiquitous headband trend to the extreme in the most eccentric new incarnation yet.

Originally I was not exactly taken with the idea of a look that I usually work while impatiently awaiting my hair to dry after a shower. Now that I have seen some beautiful editorials with glamour-pusses reminiscent of 40's bombshells sunbathing by Old Hollywood-style pools, I must admit this trend has grown on me. With sleek hair, clear skin, and a smile, this might just capture the perfect beach glam that seems so effortless yet is so hard to emulate.

It seems that this season, sheik is chic.

*First of all, I am so sorry that I have been M.I.A. for the past few weeks. It was crunch time and I had to put my nose to the grindstone, even though there were so many topics I wanted to write about. I am so excited to get back to posting!

Oh, a resort. A tropical cabana, a yacht, or a white sandy beach. Doesn't that just sound nice? But is it important enough to have its own collection designed around it? Evidently designers are saying yes, and so the Resort Collection was born. The resort collections are not just for the ridiculously well traveled and wealthy, they also give a preview of trends to come. These collections are a chance for a designer to test-drive a trend before the more popular spring collection hits the runway.

Last month Chanel, Christian Dior, and Alberta Ferretti debuted their stellar collections for the buyers and the wishers to marvel at.

Chanel

Could the tankini be the next hottest trend in swimwear? I love the diagonal stripes- so graphic!

I'm not quite sure, but this take on the granny-style tweed could be cute.
Love the color and the asymmetry. The bright shoes are drool-worthy too.

Menswear stripes look fresh when used in this abbreviated style. The floppy hat is always a great resort must-have.

Love, love, LOVE the lattice pattern on this dress! Nude with black is so hot, almost to the point of being conservatively revealing!

Another asymmetrical dress in a very daring print. Cheetah feels so new and fresh in green!

A paisley, swingy, A-line dress that creates the perfect silhouette.

This look screams Jackie O. Not only is the shift dress punchy and vibrant, but also the petite frame bag and retro shades are to die for!

The sumptuousness of the material on this dress is gorgeous. Silk + bow = feminine knockout.

I love the Elizabeth Taylor glamour of this dress. This is the style equivalent of a lemon meringue pie, creamy and dreamy.

Alberta Ferretti

The white shirt dress has never been hotter or looked so chic. The secret to an amazing piece is fit, clean lines, and just the right amount of sheerness.

Stripes are a classic, yet are modernized when in graduated widths. This is a trendy, surprising twist on an old standby.

Navy is the new, fresh alternative to black. Cinching a loose dress gives it structure, reigning it in while maintaining the flirty, swingy shape.

A very beautiful, shimmery nude in a subtle, yet spectacular metallic. The disk belt is very Grecian and is an accessory in and of itself.

Everyone loves a winner. Well, it was a tough competition, but The CEW Beauty Awards 2007 have narrowed down some of the industry's best products, from the low to high ranges, in the market. This is serious competition! This is like the Oscars of lip gloss, mascara, you-name-it! Judges evaluate many products, from skincare to makeup, to what they believe is the best. Of course, if I have the time (and resources) to try out some of these products, you can bet I will be giving my own analysis.

Eco-Chico: I'm Not A Plastic Bag

Call it Al Gore's "A Convenient Truth." Call it Stella McCartney's Eco/Vegan-conscious luxury line of ready-to-wear and skincare. Whatever the catalyst, global awareness is one of the most important (not to mention the trendiest) causes in our media-seeped culture.

Although shopping may help the economy (and give a much needed boost to a lazy Wednesday afternoon,) those shopping bags that we so easily amass may not be helping us out as much as we think. Trashed shopping bags fill a huge amount of land a year, and take thousands of years to biodegrade. I am no super eco-freako(props to those who are! I admire your resolve!), yet it just makes my stomach turn over to think that my little impulse buy could possibly lead to another notch against our beautiful world.

Therefore, it's no surprise that the tongue-in-"chic" canvas "I'm Not A Plastic Bag" by Anya Hindmarch is one of the hottest It bags across the world. This bag is encouraged to replace those irksome plastic baggies as the new shopping bag. Even though this is a great option, it would also make a great school or beach tote, and garner attention with its graphic lettering and nautical colors. Yet the icing is truly the price, and at only $15 a pop these bags are a no-brainer.

This It Bag is so hot, it sold out shortly in the UK as a special limited edition piece. Thankfully, fans begged and now a beautiful USA creme and navy edition will be available stateside this summer.

It most certainly is not a plastic bag. It is a little way to add style to your day, and a little love to the world

Brooke Shields, eat your heart out!

An old saying goes "The eyes are the windows into the soul." If this is true, than the brows are the panes. Brows define the face, and can range from shapes that come across as surprised, unruly, or strong. Needless to say, the "Ugly Betty" caterpillar look only works for comedy (thank God that America Ferrera can wash them off at the end of the day,) and the surprised, frighteningly thin penciled-in look should be reserved to TV land (in the form of Morticia Adams.)

Put down the tweezers and hold the pencil, because the new look is strong, gorgeous, and natural. A full Brooke Shields-style brow is the perfect complement to the floaty effervescent styles of both makeup and fashion for spring.

In order to pump up the fullness, I have been starting to use Anastasi Nu Brow

Alice Temperley is rumored to be the next designer after Libertine to add a little designer cred to the Target Go International line. Temperley is a British talent with a very sophisticated and feminine approach to fashion, all rolled up with a little bit of bright, punchy colors and exquisite details to add a pinch of irreverence and fun. I heard this little gem thanks to one of my favorite bloggers, Blogdorf Goodman. Expect the line to reach racks across the country sometime in late summer or early fall. If her high-end line is anything like her Target line might be, I'm sure we'll all keep our, well, temper.

Sometimes the best shows are not performed on the stage, but instead in your makeup bag, as is the case with Dior DiorShow Mascara.

Pros: There are an infinite number of positive points to this multi-tasking wonder product! It lengthens, volumizes, and holds curl better than any mascara I've yet wrapped around my zealous fingers. For anyone who loves a beautiful set of rich lashes but breaks out in hives at the idea of falsies, this is your answer. The effect is supernaturally fake (and I mean that in the best way possible,) and the result is wonderfully Old-Hollywood, with enough drama to run its own Broadway show.

Cons: Remarkably this mascara has very little disagreeable aspects to it. The only slightly annoying characteristic is that it can take a bit of scrubbing and a good makeup remover to remove, which is somewhat of a positive because it is incredibly long-lasting.

If it was up to many of us, we would want to live on the gorgeous island of Tahiti. The picturesque views, the sandy beaches, the crystalline crashing waves all conjure dreams of vacations in the sun, swinging from a hammock or lying on a beach recliner, our worries drifting away with the tide.

Although its hard to satiate this desire (unless you have a private jet to whisk you away,) there are still ways to have a Tahitian moment. Not only is this cream wonderfully moisturizing, but it also possesses one of the best tropical scents I could have ever imagined, without smelling like sickeningly-sweet fruit punch. The coconut and vanilla mingle together so that the scent is not too sweet and not too warm, a perfectly comforting balance. Its redolent scent instantly takes me out of suburbia and onto a tropical beach oasis. I was literally in a blissful haze after massaging this onto my skin, and all of my stress temporarily drifted away.

Paris Fall Fashion Week 2007: Vol. 1

Chanel

Congratulations Chanel! You have finally broken out of your monochromatic phase! Although basic black was still well represented on the runway, Karl Lagerfield dipped his gloved fingers into the color box and whipped out acid shades and jewel tones to add life to the collection. One of my favorite details were the Grecian-disco hybrid dresses with sequin adorned twisted rope. Another interesting accessory were the bib necklaces, but will this trend catch on in the real world? Still, an altogether well-conceived collection.

Chloe

One of my favorite designers, and probably the first boutique I will hit once I invent the next equivalent to the Post-It note, impresses yet again with a reflective outlook for fall. As opposed to past seasons, the floaty fabrics were traded for sturdier, angular silhouettes, some even reminiscent of kimonos. Chloe's signature crafty ornamentation was interpreted as mirrors that carried the futurism trend into the fall. I can rest easily knowing that Chloe yet again created a look that I can take inspiration from.

Stella McCartney

No, I am not a spokesperson for Stella McCartney. I just love her aesthetic very dearly, down to the the sole of those ethically-produced, pleather stiletto soles. This collection further supports my adoration, with short hemlines and volume done in a very chic manner. One of my favorite trends from this collection is the beautiful mint hue of the last dress, which seems to be very strong trend based on the dresses seen at the Oscars. Clean lines, voluminous hemlines, and sleek layering were the key words for this collection.

The shade that's on everyone's lips

It turns out Target isn't the only collaboration that Proenza Schouler has up its well-tailored sleeve. For their Spring collection, the talented pair collaborated with makeup artist Gucci Westman Neville to create an exclusive lipstick, Proenza Schouler for Lancome in Proenza Pink. The color fit perfectly with the punky feel of the collection, and soon the beauty buzz was circulating. This is the must-have lip color of the season, the It Bag of Spring 2007 makeup.

Even though I am a glossoholic, I immediately fell for the beautiful pastel lips I saw gracing the models. I couldn't stop thinking about the lipstick, so I finally gave in and ordered it, hoping for the best. Once it arrived, my impatience gave in and I put it on, regardless of the fact that I had nowhere to go that night.

I was immediately taken with the light nude, almost white base and the pinky lanvender-tinged pigment. This was exactly what Westman had described as "zink-pink." This was the color that I had tried to achieve for years by layering pink lip glosses over concealer on my lips, but to no avail. In a word this shade is the perfect anti-dote to the heavily red-stained lips of seasons past.

Because this lipstick has such an immediate impact, I would recommend pairing it with bronze skin and many coats of mascara for day, and perhaps a smoky eye for night. To amp up the staying power, a nude lip pencil matched exactly to your skin tone would be helpful, creating a matte base to play up the matte finish of the lipstick.

If Briggitte Bardot were still alive, I have no doubt that she would have used this lipstick down to a stump. I am not exaggerating when I say this is 60's summer in a tube.

Go International: Patrick Robinson

Target has just announced that the next designer for their acclaimed collaboration line, GO International, will be Patrick Robinson. Robinson is a young, fresh designer and, by the look of his Go International 2007 Spring Collection, he has much in store for the budget-conscience and design-hungry. From the look of the promotional pictures, his creative direction is very boho-fem, yet classy and breezy. Another must-have collection for the savvy, saving, and shopoholic.

Award Show Blitz: The 79th Annual Academy Awards

The Oscars were once a place where the industry could get together and celebrate achievement in the film making industry. Don't get me wrong, they still do plenty of that, yet there is also a more glamorous competition: fashion. In general I was very impressed this year, there were no swan dresses to say the least. Many actresses chose emerging designers to grace their fabulous selves as they floated amongst the flashbulbs at the biggest award show of the year. Yet there was also the sad, sad, sad, and a few surprises along the way...

The Good

J-Lo looked like a Grecian goddess in Marchesa. This was a great choice for her, a surprise because of her usual tendency towards hoochiness. Kirsten Dunst glimmered in Chanel Haute Couture. Although I am not the fondest of the feathers, I do love the sheer collar detail and the intricate yet delicate pattern. What I most love about this dress is that it reflects Kirsten's quirky-cute style in a very chic way.

Reese Witherspoon was ravishing in Nina Ricci. This lengthens her petite figure, giving her a beautiful hourglass shape. The layers were a pleasant surprise and make this look entirely unique. Ryan Phillipe is crying his puppy-dog eyes out right now.

Cameron Diaz in Valentino Couture blazed in white. I love the off-the-shoulder sleeves of this dress, and the short hemline highlights those gorgeous metallic shoes!

Kate Winslet in Valentino Couture went with an asymmetrical one-shoulder draped dress. A safe choice but pretty nonetheless.

Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive. A bold choice that Cate carries off with wonderful ease. This dress is a chic example of the new generation of the metallic trend: gunmetal.

Emily Blunt in Calvin Klein. This midnight blue dress shimmers as if it were pure liquid! One of my favorites and one of the best examples of smashing color.

Naomi Watts in buttery Escada. The pregnant star glowed in this gorgeous dress with chic draped sleeves.

Señorita Penelope Cruz was muy caliente in this feathery Versace gown. Warning: requires at least ten feet circumference around it.

Gweneth Paltrow in Zac Posen. This dress flatters her statuesque figure, oozing Old-Hollywood glam.

The Family Smith. Jada, in Carolina Herrera, Will, and Jaden win the Oscar for Most Fashionable Family.

Beyonce in Armani Prive. A beautiful dress with just enough va-va-voom for Miss B. This dress is reminds me of a refreshing scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream.

The Bad

Even though she showed Simon a thing or two about talent, earning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, she just didn't quite hit it in this outfit by Oscar de la Renta. I applaud her effort to step outside the box, yet all I wanted to do was just snatch that piece of tin foil off of her shoulders.

Meryl Streep should have picked up a few tips from her alter-ego Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada, because she didn't look very Runway in this frumpy frock.

Someone has jungle fever, and it isn't John Travolta. Kelly Preston went a little too wild in this Dolce & Gabbana gown. This dress is just too much leopard, which only ends up looking good on the actual cat. Prescription: Take leopard print in SMALL doses.

Costume designer Patricia Field is a perfect example of when you shouldn't match your dress to your EXACT shade of hair dye.

Catherine Deneuve in Gaultier Paris Couture. Catherine is a classic beauty, this dress not so much. This outfit, complete with bleeding heart, would have been more appropriate at an emo concert than at a glamorous event like the Oscars.

Jessica Biel in Oscar De La Renta. Even though she never looks bad, the pink shade is a bit flat, and the shape is boring. You'll get it right the next time, Jess.

The Vampire Queen of the Red Carpet. Excuse me, Eva Green in Givenchy.

I am crying as type this. Nicole Kidman in Balenciaga. This dress is not only sadly reminiscent of the "pillow" dress worn by Charlize Theron at last year's Oscars, but also comes complete with shoulder cup-holder! Let this be a lesson, even the chicest of us get it wrong sometimes.

As much as I strive for individuality, I must admit that as a little girl I was first exposed to beauty and fashion through the wondrous, disproportionate, and plasticized creation that is Barbie. Although we can hate her for her extreme body ratio, her forays into every career imaginable, and leading poor pretty-boy Ken on for more than forty years, we can instead take her at face value. Barbie is just plain gorgeous, and she has remained an iconic figure in pop culture.

The smart people at MAC must agree with me then, for their new collection, Barbie Loves MAC, is all about everything fun, colorful, and feminine. This collection not only contains Barbie's trademark pink, but also fresh complementary shades of green and smoky tones, a perfect palette for spring.

Once I heard of this I knew that I immediately needed to see first-hand that these were not your run-of-the-mill, sickeningly cutesy collection of cosmetics. I recently had the pleasure of viewing this collection, and I was very impressed. Although every piece in the collection, from the lipsticks to the nail polish, is covetable, my two favorites are the Barbie Loves MAC Eyeshadow in Mothbrown and the Barbie Loves MAC Beauty Powder in Pearl Blossom. The eyeshadow appears an intense and frosty purplish-brown in the case, yet when applied created a very flattering smoky glow, very soft and capable of being layered for day or night. The Beauty Powder is in the perfect shade of shimmery pastel pink, and added a gorgeous luminescent light to my face.

In the end I looked "dolled up", yet very naturally pretty, which seems like an oxymoron coming from a collection about the most highly stylized toy of all time.

London Fall Fashion Week: Vol. 2

Burberry Prorsum

Just hearing the name Burberry conjure up images of the trademark beige, red, and black plaid into my mind. Although the signature Burberry plaid is a classic and one of the most quintessential symbols of Brit fashion, Burberry is so much more. Burberry Prorsum, Burberry's more high-fashion label, combines some of the brands classic shapes, such as the trench, with new designs, making the brand modern and very hipster-chic. This season was especially inspiring, with such rich textures as croc skin, paillettes, and satin. The season's new trench is updated in the new ultra-luxe dark mossy croc with shiny gold-toned hardware, very tough-girl with attitude to spare. One of the coolest styling techniques from this collection is layering a long, slim sweater over a silky dress or skirt, a very flattering and easy way to layer two staples of the fall season. The collection also included beautifully glitzy sequin-type embellishments on smoky grays, all topped off with a fabulous pair of leather gloves. A collection like this almost makes you forget that this was a brand that started off with items as simple as a plaid scarf!

The Mascara Diaries: Vol. 2

Is there a mascara out there that can give you beautiful lashes without looking as if you have obvious black paint on them? There is with Blinc Kiss Me Mascara, which I finally tried after reading many reviews and testimonials, and finally plunked down some dough after I couldn't stand hearing another word of praise and buzz.

Pros: The exclusive formula forms tubes around the lashes that only come off with both water and pressure. That means that even if you swim, cry, or rub your eyes, this mascara will stay put. Not only that, but it also is very gentle (a rare find for such a long-lasting formula) and an ideal choice for those with sensitive eyes. When applied correctly, the definition is very natural, almost as if you are gifted with naturally plump eyelashes!

Cons: For you drama addicts out there (you know who you are,) this might not be the right mascara for you. Because the definition is so subtle, the formula might not have enough impact to satisfy a preference for rich, inky color. Because I was going for the natural look, I tried the dark brown shade, so the black might provide more richness, but probably not enough to fake full-on-falsies.

Conclusion: A true mascara for naturally beautiful-looking lashes. Not only an ideal choice for the unfussy or athletic, but also a great basic and low-maintenance mascara for everyday wear.

London Fall Fashion Week 2007: Vol. 1

To me, Fashion Week is not Fashion Week without Marc by Marc Jacobs. This was the first designer brand I fell in love with, and it opened my eyes to all different concepts of fashion. This season the show was held surprisingly in London, as opposed to New York where it has been recently. Nevertheless, it was still amazing. Marc Jacobs kept his signature grunge look, yet there was a European flair to the clothing. The berets added a French touch to a layered palette of burnished tones, charcoal, and smoky greys. The glove trend was seen yet again, adding a toasty touch to an otherwise bare sleeveless top. The ankle boot is still reigning strong as the shoe du-jour, making it a strong component to ground floaty layers. One of the most beautiful looks was a greige dress adorned with a silver filigree print, reminiscent of a Chloe look. Leave it to M by MJ to create another lust-worthy and grungy-chic collection!

Happy Valentines Day! It is the day of cupid, and sadly my dear little series of Love posts has come to a close. Do not fret, because I have plenty of more fun posts coming your way, with different themes to suit the direction of both fashion and beauty trends.

Who doesn't love a beautiful rose? Their sweet smell and delicate petals are reminiscent of an English garden and instantly conjure up thoughts of romance.

Although it is always a pleasure to see a tall glass vase filled with these elegant flowers, why not have the same satisfaction for your lips? Smith's Rosebud Salve is the ultimate chic lip saver that puts all other lip balms to shame. Packaged in a delightfully retro-pharmaceutical blue tin, this sheer pink balm contains soothing rose oils that leave lips hydrated, glossy, and naturally rosy.

This is one of my favorites of the season! After viewing collection after collection of serious clothing, its so refreshing to see these beautifully feminine looks. Once again the tight trend reigned supreme, running the gamut from striped to polka-dotted. There is definitely a baby-doll influence, yet with a touch of sophisticated glam.

Zac Posen

The young and talented Mr. Posen churned out a delightfully rich collection of polished duds this season. Rich purples mixed with warm neutrals and sultry black. A reference to the leather trend was seen in the details of dresses and on opera length gloves-a big trend for fall. Am I currently dreaming of possible future collaborations with Target? Pretty please?

New York Fall Fashion Week 2007: Vol. 2

Marc Jacobs

In an interesting fashion, Marc Jacob's Fall 2007 runway collection turned into a chic geometry lesson. Clean lines, a simple palette, and interesting angles all combined to create a modern minimalism. A key trend were the various wide brim, short brim, and tilted hats that almost obscured the faces of the models, adding mystery and retro mystique. Ladylike cuts met menswear tailoring. A departure from his usual urban-friendly aesthetic, these clothes carried a Katherine-Hepburn vibe, both strong and powerful.

3.1 Philip Lim further cemented his status as one of the best new designers in fashion with this collection. It was both young and effortlessly cool, which is part of Lim's trademark style. The short hemline reined, proving to be a persisting trend from spring. The mostly gray, tonal collection was punched up with the occasional glint of dirty metallic, hint of vibrant color, or pop of polka dots. A very chic collection for budding ingenues.

Luella

In trademark Luella fashion, this collection was bright and bold. The clothes made no apologies for being decidedly extroverted. Known for her rock n' roll aesthetic, this collection was for the fashion risk-taker. Two words to define this collection: polka dots and, what appeared to be, galoshes. Although the polka dots added fun spice to an otherwise basic black dress, the galoshes brought to mind Jack Sparrow and a band of mangy pirates. Meant for those with a sense of humor, this collection unabashedly demanded attention.

While millions will be sitting in a recliner, balancing a plate of cheesy casserole and a remote control on their lap, their eyes transfixed by the glow of the television screen as the Colts play the Bears in the biggest football game of the year, I will be watching a Super Bowl of another kind: Fall Fashion Week. This is one of only two times a year that the big-league designers pull out all the stops. Which collection will make the biggest touchdown?

This will be one of a few posts about Fall Fashion Week. As the new pictures are being added on the internet, I will be posting updates. Even though it is not even spring yet, I hope you find inspiration and begin thinking, or in my case dreaming, about all of the fabulous styles of fall!

BCBG Max Azria

When I first saw this collection, I imagined that this was a story about a Russian princess who goes turns away from the throne to become a glamorous hippie. The dark tones of the clothing were embellished with metallic accents, and the luxurious fabrics draped beautifully. A very luxe take on boho.

Rag & Bone

Rag & Bone is known for their chic approach to menswear. This season they pulled out all the stops with classics that were tough yet somehow pretty. A mix between adrogynous rocker, Oliver Twist, and Brit socialite. A key trend in this collection? Leather. The legging trend was continued with the newest leather verision, as well as leather legwarmers. A very interesting collection for the bold.

YIGAL AZROUëL

I had never hear of YIGAL AZROUëL, yet I was very impressed with this collection. There is an intellectual-chic that is a very fresh approach to cold-weather dressing. Loose, drapey layers looked beautiful in muted hues. I am especially coveting the off-white dress; it looks so comfortable yet so cool over black tights. This is a great collection for the girl who is both brainy and fashionable.

When did Valentine's Day become so stressful? Anxiety arises around this time every year, and people worry about whether or not they will have somebody to celebrate the holiday with, or if there will be someone there to hand you a box of candies and buy you a really cheesy Hallmark card. There seems to be this thought that, if you are single, that there is something missing. This belief is completely untrue. Relationships are great, but they shouldn't affect self esteem. Everyone in the world is good enough that they don't need someone to make them better.

Why not spread the love around this Valentine's Day? Take some time for TLC, show your friends and family how much you care about them, and reach out to those in your community who just aren't feelin' the love. Couture. Its what fashion editors wait every season for. Magazines try to analyze it. But for most of us, its what we cock our head at, desperately trying to understand. Couture is the purest form of design creativity. It is the time for designers to exercise their imagination and explore new realms of fashion. Couture defies our perception of clothing from a necessity into an art form. Christian Dior Couture Spring 2007 was quite a spectacle. The resonating theme was the idea of a geisha, and taking that image to newer and greater heights. Among some of the styles, the masterful John Galliano added new volume to the kimono. Layers of flirty ruffles deconstructed beautiful dresses, their trains taking on the appearance of a luxurious river of ruby lava flowing behind them, as seen in the first picture. Not Just Another Pretty Face

Anyone who has enough time in her life to write a fashion blog must obviously love to read magazines. In fact, I find them to be almost required reading! I am like a sponge, a sticky one at that. Every check-out line is fair game for me.

Which is why I have become quite the connoisseur of glossies. I read the "classics," VOGUE, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Seventeen, Teen Vogue, InStyle, Lucky, and countless others. I love them, but eventually all of the wonderful advice begins to meld together, making it hard to differentiate one from the other.

My discovery of Nylon was completely by a fortuitous chance. It was the week before midterms, and I was at one of my main haunts, Barnes & Noble, studying. After hours of angular launch, the Roman Empire, Spanish irregular conjugations, and absolute value graphs, needless to say I was in desperate need of a break. I walked over to the magazine stand and perused the selection. A bunch of pretty but vapid faces stared back at me, lifeless and uninteresting. Not satisfied, I sifted through the rows, until a title leaped out at me. Its bright, neon words emblazoned across it read NYLON. Curious, I flipped through it, and after hours of reading I was in love.

This magazine is the essence of cool. Not only is the fashion unique and creative, but also the articles are poignant and funny, to say the least. The magazine's main focus is what is cool, hip, and underground; everything on the verge of popularity. The articles range from makeup to music to culture and back, all accompanied with NYLON's signature smart, intellectual humor and wit. Being an artist, I find the photography and the layouts to be very inspiring. My amazingly talented photographer friend, Kelsey, and I both love to read it in order to get inspiration for our own projects. Time reading this mag is time well spent. Needless to say, the day that my subscription arrives in the mail is a very happy day for me.

If you want to read a real gem of a periodical, then pick up the February 2007 edition of NYLON at your local bookstore. The article with the elusive Sienna Miller is very fascinating, and it gets me even more excited for her upcoming role as Edie Sedgwick in Factory Girl. The editorial is quite fun too, with some of the most quirky-chic styling I've seen in a long time.

Because even die-hard fashionistas need a break from VOGUE once in a while.

I have become quite the skincare geek. I am constantly flipping through my newest copy of VOGUE right to the beauty news section, where I ingest each and every article about the newest, trendiest complexion solutions available. It has become quite an obsession.

I recently became interested in organic beauty products, yet I never had the courage to try them. They just seemed too "crunchy" to me. I mean, a crushed almond scrub sounds amazing, yet does it really work? Is it just like slathering food on my face?

Before I was about to rule out all natural mystery products, I stumbled upon CARE by Stella McCartney. I am a huge fan of Miss McCartney; her runway collections are beautiful, her Adidas by Stella McCartney line actually makes me want to work out, and her perfume, Stella, is like meandering through a garden of English roses. I recently read an article on McCartney, and in it she described the intensive process that her team of scientists went through to perfect the line. Neon. That one word conjures up a million different connotations. For those who lived in the 80's, it was all the rage to see just how many stretchy, bright, spandex-y clothing one could wear, in the gym and out. In a deserted landscape, a blinking neon sign welcomes visitors to Sin City. Punky teens mix and match snappy neon rubber bracelets with their chunky black combat boots and meander around the city looking for the next emo/indie/punk band to rock out to.

This past Spring Fashion Week, designers gave neon a new connotation. The creativity surged from the new concepts and forms that neon was incorporated into. They were all unexpected, yet somehow fit together perfectly. Whether streamlined or ornate, many shows abounded with flashy color, offering a wake-up call from the somber clothing of fall. Bright, futuristic mesh was layered over basic black at Fendi. Emanuel Ungaro turned the goddess gown upside down by designing his in a fluorescent spectrum. The Christian Dior Spring Couture show included a gorgeously layered, ruffled gown that faded from pastel seafoam to almost glaring chartreuse, like watercolor on an acid trip.

So how do you wear neon without looking like a Las Vegas casino sign? Even though designers went to the extreme, it doesn't mean that you have to. You can integrate neon into your wardrobe in small doses, whether that be a chunky bracelet, cool ring, or punchy shoes. If you find fluorescent to be too harsh, then you can ease into some highly-pigmented standard hues, like Cerulean Blue.

Remember, this trend is to be worn with confidence and humor, so have fun with it!

The Mascara Diaries: Vol. 1

I am a little obsessive when it comes to mascara. My perfect mascara would lengthen, curl, volumize, separate, and add definition all while not clumping. I am still on the hunt, which is why I have dedicated a new series of posts to reviewing the newest and most hyped-about mascaras, from drugstore to department store brands. I am very excited to report my findings and to help you find the mascara that is right for you!

The first mascara in this installment is The New Max Factor Volume Couture Mascara. I have heard a lot about this mascara from various other bloggers, and most have been very complementary reviews. The hype behind this mascara is that it was the official mascara used for Milan's Spring Fashion Week. It also has an exclusive iFX brush with micro-channels to deliver color with less clumps.

After reading all of these rave reviews, I had to try it. I ended up spending the whole weekend in search of it, for it seems almost no retailers carry MAX Factor anymore. I finally found it, and couldn't wait to use it.

Pros: The brush is very advanced, with tiny spikes that easily coat every eyelash. The application was pretty simple (considering I had applied it in the car.) This is the perfect mascara if you want rich, black, highly-pigmented lashes. You can actually feel your lashes on your brow bone when you gaze up!

Cons: The lashes tend to feel a little heavy after application, so this wouldn't be a good choice if you don't like the feel of mascara. Since this mascara is focused on volume, there is not very much in the lengthening department. I would recommend curling your eyelashes before applying to get a little extra lift. I also had to scavenge for this mascara and finally found it at Meijer, so if you are not interested in a hunt, than this might not be the mascara for you.

Conclusion: I thought this was an excellent mascara for the price (about $7.) I will definitely use this in order to create that rich, faux-lash look. This is a specialty mascara, created for couture volume, so this might not be the best mascara if you are looking for natural definition. But I did feel a little like a 40's screen goddess while wearing this mascara, madly flitting her dark fringe at every wink.

Target and Proenza Schouler...it just couldn't get any cooler

I am a hopeless shopper. I read as many magazines as I can get my hands on, fantasize about the ingenious clothing combinations that I would create, and scribble down long lists of all of the gorgeous, sparkling things that, in my other life as a French socialite, would have snatched up at first glance.

And then I wake up and realize that I am a student, which means little or no money. In conclusion, I live a vicarious shopping existence.

And so all of us non-socialites live for designer collaborations. I have recently become obsessed with GO International from Target. If you have not been to Target recently (which if you're like me, is hardly unlikely) then you should definitely check this section out. Recent designer collaborations have been Luella, Paul & Joe, and Behnaz Sarafpour. Needless to say I already have an impressive collection of these discount designer duds.

And now GO International is about to introduce its most highly-anticipated designer collaboration yet, Proenza Schouler. These boys are geniuses. Both graduated just a few years ago from Parsons School For Design in New York City, my dream school. They are a favorite amongst the celebs and fashion editors alike. There collections exude cool, effortless glamour and always have excellent tailoring. I have no doubt that they will create the best designer collection for Target yet.

Thanks to Target, I don't have to have socialite money in order to look like one!

Ok, ok, I admit it. I love MySpace. And yes, I have one that I check obsessively. I mean, who doesn't? MySpace has never been more popular. It seems now that everyone and their grandmother has a MySpace.

Although this cultural phenomenon is a great way to check up on your friends and post hilarious comments on their profiles, this has also opened up a whole closet full of problems, mainly as a result of the extremely...harsh clarity of digital cameras. You may not have oily skin, but sometimes the light will reflect onto your face and create a rather unpleasant effect. Advanced, yes, flattering, no.

If there is one piece of clothing that everyone can agree on, its denim. Denim has been a staple of the wardrobe since the time of the California gold rush, when the sturdy material was essential for the long days of sifting through water, looking for a glimpse of gold. Since then, denim has taken on a totally new face. It remains a classic yet is reincarnated into different shapes, cuts and silhouettes each season. It is amazing that a material so old remains so fresh.

This past season the It jean was the skinny jean. The sleek silhouette made it perfect to achieve the British/punk/supermodel look that remains an archetype of cool. Kate Moss wore skinny jeans to perfection, pulling the look off effortlessly. I personally loved this look because it flattered my petite frame, making me appear inches taller (especially with heals!) But I know this look is not for everyone, nor should it be.

Which is why this season the tide has turned the other way, as is the nature of fashion. What comes up must come down. And so this spring one of the main denim trends is the wide-leg jean. Not only does it flatter many different body types, but a wide leg pant exudes classic style reminiscent of Katherine Hepburn. Paired with a tucked-in blousy shirt and some sleek heels, the whole look would be very menswear-meets-sophisticated-woman.

So for all of you who squeezed into those skinny jeans or just winced at the sight of them, rejoice! Fashion has heard your call.

A Spoonful of Sugar

Mary Poppins got it right. Sugar can cure everything. It has the power to momentarily cure disappointments, a bad grade on a test, even a broken heart. What would we be without sugar?

And so when my skin began to look and feel like the Sahara Desert, I knew I needed some sugar therapy. I crept into my mother's bathroom and borrowed her Fresh Sugar Face Polish, hoping that perhaps her swanky skincare would cure my skin. I looked at the label and saw that some of the key ingredients included brown sugar, grapeseed oil, vitamin C, and wild strawberries. This masque/exfoliant hybrid looked promising, so I was curious to see if it lived up to its sleek product marketing.

As I massaged the exfoliant onto my skin, I was first struck with how wonderfully delicious the polish smelled, like a mixture of strawberries and lemon. The sugar particles were finely ground, not course like the usual exfoliants that I have tried. After leaving the masque on for ten minutes and then rinsing it off in warm water, I was shocked. My skin felt smooth and silky to the touch. It looked almost poreless. And the best part was it had restored some of my lost hydration. My skin was no longer a desert, but instead a silky flower petal.

Style Icon Vol. 2: Edie Sedgwick

Actress. Performance artist. Model. It Girl. Muse. Edie Sedgwick was the Lindsay Lohan of the sixties, only cooler. She hung out with some of the most influential pop culture figures of the sixties. As Andy Warhol's muse, she starred in many of his underground films and flitted about his legendary studio, The Factory. Bob Dylan was so transfixed by her that he supposedly wrote a song about her. Sienna Miller will soon portray Edie in the new film "Factory Girl" that will be released later this year. She was like a carefree butterfly of the sixties. It is a shame that she became so taken by the shady side of celebrity that she flitted away before her time.

So what was it about Edie that made her so...cool? Was it the dramatic eyeliner? The bleached pixie cut? The spiky, fluttery eyelashes? The long, dangling earrings? I believe it was her spark of rebelliousness and unconventionality that made anything she wore look amazing. A striped tee shirt with a fur coat? That was the usual outfit for Edie.

Her daring style even inspired me to be her for Halloween this last October. And I am hardcore about Halloween. I wore a striped sweater dress with leggings and black leather boots. I attempted to pin up my long brunette hair into a short blond "Surfer" wig, which surprisingly looked more Edie than the actual "Mod" wig that was available. I traced intense black liquid eyeliner around my eyes and put on fake under eye lashes. The overall effect was pretty seamless, even my friends didn't recognize me at first.

So how do you incorporate a little bit of mod into your style? Stripes are a classic way to give a graphic statement to any outfit. Big, shiny, plastic jewelry is also a great option. I believe that anything that makes you feel daring ans unique is mod. Have fun and play with this look!

If you attend high school or have attended it at some time in your life, then you know about all the cliques. Especially the popular kids who seem to rule the school.

Well in the fashion world, gold has been the popular kid for a few seasons. The resurgence of metallics put this precious metal on top, making it the status metal.

Well, gold is classic, but frankly its not as exciting or trendy as it once was. It is time for a refreshing take on metallics for the new season: silver. This has been the unpopular kid of the metallics for a few seasons, waiting patiently for its comeback. All the waiting has payed off though, because Spring 2007 was all about silver!

Silver: This is an offshoot of one of the hottest trends of the spring: futurism. Worn as accessories and apparel, silver made a dramatic statement on the runways. I like to think of it as the sophisticated, cooler sister of gray. Glamorous interpretations of this trend were seen on the Spring 2007 runways in many styles and forms. Narsico Rodriguez designed a minimalistic yet beaming cocktail dress. Marc Jacobs marched a parade futuristic flappers down the runway decked out in silver caps. But of all the designers, my favorite was Zac Posen, who put the topper on the cake with his final look, a gigantic couture gown glimmering in leaves of foil.

So how do you wear silver? Although this metallic hue is a wonderful addition to any wardrobe, I would suggest taking it in small doses, a pair of ballet flats here, a flash of jewelry there. Anything architectural, such as a sleek silver cuff, would look very fresh. In fact, this would be a perfect "foil" (no pun intended) to the more muted colors and silhouettes of the spring, giving any look just the edge it needs. So try silver and see your style "reflected" in a new light!

I miss being a little girl.

Life seems so much easier when all you have to worry about is where you put the plastic shoes for your Barbie. One of my fondest memories of living in Minnesota when I was seven were my jelly shoes. Oh how I loved my jellies. I wore them as much as I could, and was devastated when I grew out of them. There was nothing like having rubbery, plastic shoes.

While doing my daily internet, ahem," research," I stumbled across these gorgeous turquise jellies. They at once reminded me of those spring days clomping along in my squishy shoes, not a care in the world. Now I can have that feeling again! Marc Jacobs understands my fascination with all things childish and has designed these Marc by Marc Jacobs Jelly Peep Toe flats. The rubber material is so cute, and the peep-toe design is fresh and sophisticated. The mini wedge even adds a smidgen of height, perfect for petite girls like me.

Blush: No Embarassment Required

It can be pretty hard to keep from blushing. This natural reaction to embarrassment ranges from cute to uncontrollable, and can be especially humiliating when trying to keep your cool, whether its after finding toilet paper stuck to the bottom of your strappy heels or catching sight of your crush at the mall.

When blushing is desired, it can be quite hard to achieve a natural look. What everyone wants is a little bit of rosy color, that just-stepped-in-from-the-cold-and-now-I'm-going-to-warm-myself-by-the-toasty-fire look.

What I have found is that most powder blushes produce a chalky, powdery look. The most natural and longest lasting product I've ever tried is the Benefit Benetint Pocket Pal. This product has already earned valuable space in my purse that is reserved only for the essentials. The double ended design is very smart, a red stain on one side and a shiny, clear gloss on the other side: double duty. The stain also looks lovely on the lips, an excellent alternative to red lipstick. Layering the red stain with the clear gloss on my lips also made my teeth look whiter, an added bonus.

Why does it seem like neutrals always get such a bad rap? Many believe them to be the equivalent of fashion "vanilla." This season will prove the haters wrong.

Neutrals: This season, neutrals got a major fashion facelift. The colors ranged from blush to khaki to griege. The new incarnations were breathtaking in their simplicity and allowed themselves to become the backdrops of inventive accessories and superb details.

One of the designers who demonstrated this to perfection was Stella McCartney at her Spring 2007 show. In her collection, neutrals took center stage, looking crisp and fresh. The look to the left is one of my favorites for the entire season. I love how the delicate simplicity of the white sand dress complements the cold hardness of the metallic jewelry. Bold necklaces have been trendy for many seasons, yet seem new when pared with the lightness of this shift. The juxtaposition is breathtaking: one part sweet classicist, one part futuristic hipster.

Wearing neutrals is a great way to showcase accessories that you would otherwise think would be to overwhelming. I can't wait to rock this look for many different occasions this spring.

So be bold by going neutral!

Style Icon Vol. 1: Audrey Hepburn

I am not the first or the last to love Audrey Hepburn. She is one of the most iconic women of all time, up there with Jackie O and Grace Kelly. She defined style effortlessly, making a black dress with gorgeous jewelry appear as nonchalant as jeans and a t. Her style was timeless and will continue to inspire fashionistas of the present and future for years to come.

My current Audrey fascination is with the Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses that she wears in Breakfast at Tiffany's. The bubbly Holly Go-Lightly wears these in the opening scene in which she strolls along the windows of uptown New York City, sipping coffee and eating a pastry as she peeks into the sparkling windows of Tiffany & Co.

How often is there something that both fashionistas and rock stars can agree on? Well the Wayfarer for one. These just speak thrown-together glamour with street-cred edge. On a girly-girl they take on low-key-chic look, while on a rocker or wannabe-rocker they look hipster with a slight nerdy-cool factor.

I have had my eye on these for quite some time and can't wait to save up enough baby-sitting money to buy them. My friends know me as the girl who always wears her big, bug-eyed sunglasses whenever I go outside (and on my head when I'm inside.) It's time for a change, and these are just the refreshing pair of sunnies I have been looking for.

And then I can stroll along Tiffany's and drink my Chai Tea Latte while humming "Moon River" like nobody's business.

Wake Up and Smell the Roses

Am I the only one who is positively crazy? It hasn't even officially snowed and I'm already dreaming of spring. The sun. The flowers. The break. But most importantly...

NEW CLOTHES!!!

I will be gently introducing these new trends so as not to freak anyone out too much.

Florals: Isn't it time to feel pretty again? After a few seasons of dark, brooding clothing, there was a breath of fresh air on the catwalks this season. The mood was decidedly light, crisp, and refreshing. The new modern floral emerged as a standout trend this season. In new proportions and created with different techniques, the floral was re-born.

A great example of this was at the Louis Vuitton Spring 2007 show in Bryant Park last October, designed by the masterful Marc Jacobs. Dewy milkmaids in pastels flitted down the runway carrying baskets of fresh flowers as if they were the new It bag, roses kissing their wispy hair. It looked as if these fresh-faced girls had mistaken Bryant Park for a springtime meadow. Subtle whispers of minimized flower prints adorned their cotton layers, enhanced by tulle, creating a truely frothy spectacle. It was enough to make anyone sigh. A botanical confection of a collection.

It is a little too early to tell, but it is very likely that this trend will translate into the mainstream, most likely through Forever 21 or H&M.

Why only grow roses in your garden when you can grow them in your wardrobe as well?

Okay, so I am so not really into real grillz. I think that its totally cool if you are gangsta enough to rock one, but I can't do it. Believe me, if you saw me with one in my mouth you would probably die of laughter. After my days of orthodontic torture, I am not too keen on putting anything metallic and sparkly on my teeth.

That doesn't mean I don't have my own grill of sorts.

Thanks to Crest Whitening Rinse I have the same satisfaction for my teeth as other rappers who profess the benefits of diamonds in your mouth. My teeth always look refreshingly whiter every time I rinse with this. It is also virtually the easiest whitener you can use. Just swig, swish for about a minute , and rinse. The Power of Pink

There is nothing like being a teen. You are young and have a little taste of freedom, yet none of the burdening responsibilities of being an adult.

The only downside: pimples.

These nasty boogers especially seem to come up whenever you don't want them, like on the night before a dance. There is something so awful about the sight of a red little eruption beneath the skin that lingers for days, ready and waiting to explode the moment you least want it to. Hello Mt. Vesuvius.

Well I have found an extinguisher to tame this fire. And its pink! Quite unexpected don't you think? Mario Badescu Drying Lotion is a spot treatment that minimizes your pimple overnight. Like that.

All you have do do is the three d's: dip, dab, and dot. First you dip a q-tip into the bottle all the way down to the pinky residue that settles to the bottom of the bottle. Next, you dab around in the bottle gently to collect the residue without mixing the sediments with the oil. Finally, you dot the pleasantly pink residue on all offending pimples. Left on overnight, the lotion makes a significant difference and sometimes dries the entire pimple, all without robbing your skin of moisture.

Hasn't everyone at one point or another phantasized about becoming a ballerina? Do you secretly do a pirouette in your cute ballet flats and picture yourself in a frothy pink tutu with your hair pulled back into a tight bun?

Well you're not alone, the folks at MAC Cosmetics gotcha covered.

Their new Spring 2007 collection is aptly titled Danse, Danse and takes inspiration from the delicate colors of the ballet. Pastels are combined with iridescence along with quiet neutrals that pack serious punch.

I especially fell in love with the eyeshadow color French Grey, a matte taupe with a silver pearl. This color would completement light eye colors beautifully. Another product that caught my attention was a lipstick in Classical, a pale pastel pink that looks incredibly sweet and would look beautiful on ballerina and non-ballerina alike. One of the standouts from the collection is the Mineralize Skinfinish in Lightscapade. This is an iridescent shimmer powder in an array of colors that, when combined, completement the skin in a supernatural manner, almost as if a spolight were gently gracing the face. Good luck on finding the last one, they were all sold out at my MAC counter.

So you may not want to step into that leotard and tutu and balance your toe en pointe, but why not look like it?

Darkness Falls

Yeah so I'll be the first to admit that I'm not goth. Def not goth. I'm not even punk. Sure I listen to my indie rock, a little emo even. But I wouldn't classify myself into any category.

But that doesn't matter. Not when I'm wearing my Chanel Nail Colour in Madness.

Chanel Nail Colour is known for its superior quality. This stuff rocks. Period. This is one of the limited edition colors from the Spring 2007 line. Two coats go on super smooth, better than any other polish I've ever tried. I haven't gotten any chips in it yet, even with all the typing I do for this blog and Myspace. The color is deep and rich, a dark chocolate with a warm red undertone. Totally and utterly sophisticated. This color would be flattering on all skintones. I was lucky enough to snatch the last one from my department store makeup counter, because these babies sell faster than lemonade on a hot summer day.

This is a great way to jump into the new darker nail polish trend for spring without feeling like a poser. 'Cause no one wants to be that!

Dreaming of a far off place...

The weather in my town is quite weird. During cross country season in the fall, I was sure it was going to snow, it was so cold. Now it is January and it feels like spring. Just the other day I was tempted to buy some cute shorts and then I remembered it is winter. Blame it on global warming.

And so I have found a sane way of satiating my lust for a warmer climate. The new Kenzo KenzoAmour fragrance is an intoxicating Oriental journey. I Love Winter

I love winter. Scratch that. I would love winter if it didn't turn my hair into a giant ball of frizzy, static-y fuzz. Its kinda of like when you're a kid and you think its fun to rub a balloon on your head. Only when you get older, the effect is not so desired or cute.

Tinted Love

Okay so I am a firm anti-foundation person. I hate putting on cakey makeup, it makes me feel (1) old or (2) like a vegas showgirl (in the worst way possible!)

I have always been jealous of people with gorgeous eyelashes. There is something so enticing about a dark curtain of lashes that frame the eyes and highlight every glance, every flutter, every wink. When I see people so blessesed with these lashes I silently cry for being cursed with short, straight, whimpy hairs. I have tried virtually every type of mascara, drugstore and department store alike to no avail. What I got were short, stumpy lashes that were now a goopy, black, flaky mess. Tear.

But there is hope for us lash-challenged people. While doing my daily Sephora research, I stumbled upon Talika Eyelash Lipocils.
